A man who killed the half-brother of Premiership footballer Jermain Defoe with a single punch has been jailed for three year.

Chris Farley, 33, originally charged with murder, went on the run for a week after he rode up to the young father Jade Defoe on a BMX bicycle and assaulted him in a daylight street fight.

Defoe fractured his skull and suffered brain damage when his head hit the pavement.

Farley, from Leytonstone, was today at the Old Bailey found guilty today of manslaughter.

Killed for robbery?

Reports emerged that the 26-year-old rapper, who called himself Esco Bars after Colombia drug baron Pablo Escobar, was killed after being accused of burgling a friend’s home.

A family member said he denied it, walked away but was pursued, punched in the back of his head, falling and hitting his head on the pavement - sustaining the fatal injury.

There have also been allegations that Jade, known to his family as Gavin, owed money to drug dealers.

Internet postings

He had posted gangster-style rap videos on the internet along with chilling lyrics about guns, shooting and murder.

One said:

"**** about and I will murder ya. Put holes in your torso for those that don't know."

Jailing him today, Judge Stephen Kramer said:

"The unintended consequence of what you did in anger by that single, powerful punch has had the result of depriving a family of a son, brother and father."
