The music industry may have being playing catch up with the internet but other unholy alliances such as reality TV and ringtones show the biz can always sniff out a buck. The latest gambit sees the music publishing industry's delving into the world into fashion - and Asda. Yes, Universal Music Publishing is the latest music publisher to see the cash potential of printing lyrics from popular pop songs onto t-shirts and whatnot, and they have entered into a deal with the supermarket giant to bring their lyrical clothing to the masses. The Killing of George
Lyrics from The Cure's 'Lovecats', Thin Lizzy's 'The Boys Are Back In Town', Hard-Fi's 'Living For The Weekend' and Steppenwolf's 'Born To Be Wild' are among those that will appear on the lyrical clothing to be stocked as part of Asda's George range. And with this partnership, people who buy the lyrical t-shirts will be able to download a copy of the featured song via the George.com website for free. Confirming the new partnership with the supermarket giant, Universal Publishing's business development man Simon Mortimer told reporters: "We are delighted to have entered into this unique partnership with the hugely successful George at Asda range. Working with one of the best known, mainstream fashion brands is great news for the writers and artists we represent and this concept, which gives consumers a range of highly original clothing as well as a free song download, is a very compelling offering". George's Fiona Lambert added: "Slogan t-shirts are extremely popular with all our customers especially our male shoppers. We are offering them a piece of nostalgia through lyrics from their favourite artists like Kiss and Hard-Fi, making the ideal Father's Day gifts". Just in time pa! Additional reporting by CMU Network
