The growing political influence of the “Cypriot” lobby in British politics boasting over 15 councillors, an MEP, dozens of prospective parliamentary candidates and over 350,000 voters, manifested itself once again in Manchester with a packed fringe meeting at the Midland hotel.

The Greek and Turkish Cypriot Conservatives showed unity and optimism at the Conservative conference in Manchester in a cordial fringe meeting held at the Midland Hotel by the “Conservative Friends of Cyprus” in association with the Federation of Cypriots in Great Britain and the Democratic Rally UK.
The fringe meeting attended by the shadow Europe Minister Mark Francoise, Theresa Villiers Shadow Transport Secretary, dozens of MPs and the Prospective Parliamentary candidate for the Conservatives in Edmonton Andrew Charalambous, Marina Yannakoudakis MEP for London, Maria Ioannou Chair of Fastrack, Cabinet member for Enfield Councillor Ertan Hurer, President of the Federation of Cypriots Peter Droussiotis and the High Commissioner of Cyprus Alexandros N. Zenon and Andreas Papaevripides the Chairman of Democratic Rally in the UK.
Mark Franciose the shadow Europe Minister underlined that a Conservative government would work "towards a just and viable solution in Cyprus" and hoped there would be flexibility on both sides in order to "facilitate a settlement".
Speaking at the event the President of the National Federation of Cypriots Peter Droussitis said:
"We support wholeheartedly current efforts to reunite Cyprus but we have no doubt that Turkey's role is critical to the success of the current negotiations. We call upon the British government and future governments to use its influence with Ankara so that Turkey accepts the need for a solution based on principles and European and international law."
