Subject: Jack Green Un-Released Material Now Available

Dear Editors: 1980's power pop sensation Jack Green has now made an album of unreleased material (his first in 23 yrs.) available by purchase through his YouTube account nelsonwight. A free 'taster' music video track entitled "The Things That I've Seen" chronicles his many experiences within the music industry. Jack was John & Yoko's overwhelming choice to open up for them in the tragically aborted 1980 Double Fantasy Tour, was in New York performing and subsequently participated at the vigil with the masses of mourners in front of the Dakota. Prior to this Jack appeared in the musical 'HAIR', recorded guitar work for Country Joe & the Fish with his band "Sunshine" and toured with Marc Bolan and T-Rex. Jack also toured the world extensively for four years with the British R & B group, "The Pretty Things". He has previously recorded four albums, Humanesque, Reverse Logic, Mystique, & Latest Game (of which is currently available on Revolver Records). Among those who have backed Jack on his recordings are: Ritchie Blackmore, Jim Capaldi, Kelly Groucutt, John Bundrick, Snowy White, Simon Kirke, Boz Burrell & Pete Tolson. An autobiography covering his six decades in music is forthcoming. Terry Chaychuk, Jack Green Appreciation Society Member

Subject: Make Votes Count

Sir, David Cameron (http://www.thelondondailynews.com/cameron-warns-voting-reform-could-westminster-p-3036.html) has a huge vested interest in maintaining an electoral system which might give him virtually unfettered power after the next election on only 40% of the vote. The expenses row has exposed the weakness of a system that guarantees MPs in safe seats a life tenure, almost regardless of what they do. Even with new faces that a general election brings, the same lack of accountability, except in the most exceptional circumstances, will continue. There should be a referendum on the voting system, to take place on the same day as the next general election. It would give voters the chance to register their feelings at the ballot box twice: once to get rid of a tainted MP; and once to get rid of a rotten system and change things for good. This is about giving power back to the man and woman on the street; taking that decision away from the party machines who favour the status quo. Proportional systems reflect the strength of voter feeling: if enough people vote for a particular party, that party gains some representation. Representation; not power. Voters in Barking and Dagenham and Epping Forest are already keenly aware of how the BNP has got a monopoly of power in some wards, despite only 30% of the vote – such is the way the current First-Past-the-Post system for council elections works. Different PR systems are appropriate for different elections. The system used for electing MEPs is simple for the voter; a more diverse set of views and parties gain representation; and there are opportunities for a better gender balance of successful candidates. However, no electoral reformer would wish to see the closed list system in place for electing MPs. Like Cameron, we recognise the need to rebuild a strong link between constituents and their MP. But, unlike him, we favour giving voters more choice over candidates. Alternative Vote Plus (the system which was drawn up with public involvement by the Jenkins Commission and is favoured by Alan Johnson) and the Single Transferable Vote do exactly that. But the key thing is to let the voter decide – which Cameron seems intent on preventing. Malcolm Clark Malcolm Clark Director, Make Votes Count

Subject: Muslim children in state schools

Salaam Muslim children have been attending state schools for tha last 60 years. They have been suffering from Paki-bashing and bullying. Majority of them have been leaving schools with low grades. They have been leaving schools without learning their cultural and linguistic skiils. The result is that they do not know where they belong. They suffer from Identity crises. Now Muslim youths are victim of terrorism. Thousands of them are being searched in streets and hundreds of them are behind the bar without any trial. Bilingual Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods. There is no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school. There are hundreds of state and church schools where Muslim children are in majority. In my opinion, all such schools may be designated as Muslim community schools. Bilingual Muslim children need to learn and be well versed in standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same time, they need to learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to become notorioulsy monolingul Brit. Iftikhar Ahmad London School of Islamics Trust www.londonschoolofislamics.org.uk

Subject: And the winner is....the Greek boy

Unfortunately, I am unable to send a 'comment' on this article and I am also unable to send a 'letter' to the Editor. I, therefore, wish to send my comments regarding this item to you - in the hope that it can be added to the 'comments' to this article and sent as a letter to the Editor. It has become obvious that the media and Peter Andre's 'PR machine' is publically assassinating the image of Katie Price. The media's clever use of language, image and 'spin' is being used to provoke strong opinions - and is creating a 'hatred' of Katie. In who's interests?? Many people will not even have met Katie Price - and the 'reality shows' will have been carefully edited - so who ACTUALLY knows the 'fact' from 'fiction' in current events? Regardless of the limited factual data, the public has been 'stirred' to form strong opinion - that is based on assumptions and speculation.. led by the media.. to raise a profile and then crush it - did not Susan Boyle suffer in the same way recently?? I find it uncomfortable that Peter Andre advises that he wishes to keep the private details of his 'split' to himself - but, after he walks out on HIS WIFE and 3 children, he avoids even speaking to HIS WIFE, but then airs the details to his private life in front of 600 million people - and uses the hurtful words in his song to promote his flagging 'career'. This particular song will have been written in a studio that was set in Katie's house! Both Katie and Peter have previously denied allegations that their marriage was in any trouble at all - indeed, they confirmed that they wanted more children in the future! So at least one of them is able to lie convincingly!! Katie is making an impressive attempt to carry on with her career and home life - now as a single parent - under these extremely distressing conditions. Even her childcare is now under 'public' attack - when there is NO evidence to suggest that she has ever provided anything other than a loving and caring envionment to her 3 children. This news article is the first time I have seen any responsible reporting regarding this couple - let's have much more of it please rather than the current 'poisonous' reporting that only benefits one of the parties involved... Thank you

Subject: BBC licence fee

Sir, Sir Michael Lyons of the BBC states "no.....demands on licence fee payers to help fund the political...................... concerns of the day". I suggest that that is precisely what is happening at present, but unfortunately those same licence fee payers have absolutely NO say in whatever agenda the BBC dreams up. Yours, etc

Subject: Iran

This story about the Iran protests being a U.S. operation -- you are lying, evil scumbags, and everyone knows it. A quick search shows that the quote you attribute to Obama was actually Sarkozy, and you knew it because it was from the same WSJ piece you referenced. The "Iranian Lawmaker" quote was from 2008, in the LA Times. You did no reporting at all, you plagiarized and lied, but more importantly you undermined the Iran opposition by claiming, online where everyone can see it, that they are instruments of U.S. power. Those kids are dying because they actually have a slim chance for freedom, and you just come along and piss on it for no reason at all. You aren't human.

Subject: Murdoch's "paywalls"

Sir, Your editorial regarding the Murdoch press' decision to charge for its online edition is a point well made. I would never dream of buying the print edition of those publications as I feel that the proprietor's American citizenship, republican agenda and anti-British sentiments are incompatible with the ownership of British newspapers. Furthermore, his decision to charge for online readership will further isolate his publications when so much free content of his rivals is freely available online. Yours, etc.

Subject: Cyprus Prospective

Fatma Kemal's prospective on the Cyprus conflict is askew. The conflict dated back to 1957, not 1963 when Turkey sent in troops posing as Turkish Cypriot fighters, with British acquiescence, to take on EOKA, who were campaigning for the union of Cyprus with Greece. Britain forced independence on Cyprus in 1959 and the Turkish Cypriots made it unworkable by vetoing important legislation including the budget for three years running. Fearing that President Makarios would convince the other guarantor powers to allow amendments to the constitution Turkish Cypriots started intercommunal fighting and withdrew from the organs of the Republic in late December 1963. In 1967 the Turkish Cypriots sought to create a military front at Kokkina which resulted in more clashes. There was peace between Greek and Turkish Cypriots after that until the summer of 1974 when Turkey pretending to act as Guarantor used the Coup against the Cyprus Government to invade, occupy, ethnically cleanse, colonise and seek the partition of Cyprus, contrary to its Treaty obligations. The Turkish Cypriots never accounted for more than 18% of the population and never had 30% of the land. Turkish Cypriots largely preferred to rent rather than own property as opposed to their Greek Cypriots counterparts. Mr. Kemal should also note that the Turkish Cypriots are not looking for equality as they are now outnumbered by the Turkish Colonist and they are merely one more ethnic minority among a large number of disadvantaged ethnic minorities suffering in Turkey. In 1974 the were 114,000 Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus. They have since left the island because of the suffering they endure under Turkey's so-called protection and they are now estimated at less than 80,000. There are twice as many Turkish Colonist and 40,000 Turkish Troops. The troops are not only there to keep the Greek Cypriots out, but also to keep the Turkish Cypriots under control.

Subject: bailing out main street

Letter to the Editor Bailing Out Main Street The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Dear Mr. President So far we have seen 700 billion of our tax payer dollars go towards bailing out Corporate Americas Wall Street, Insurance Companies and Banks and the economy has not improved. Instead these institutions are still rewarding themselves with bonuses for bad behavior. Now its time to bail out Main Street and here’s how. The Bankers Rule of 72 says that the interest you pay divided into 72 determines how fast money will double. For example a $100,000 mortgage at 8% will double every 9 years. So in 9 years an investment of $100,000 becomes $200,000 nine years later $400,000 nine years later $800,000. (any truth-in-lending statement will confirm this) Here is the solution: since banks already have OUR money in the form of deposits, and have made enormously obscene profits off of each loan, why not have every institution search their portfolios for performing loans that are 20 years old or older and prepay or forgive them. This means redirecting the money we’ve already given them, not giving them more. Let’s assume that the average mortgage payment is $1500.00 per month and there are 50 million mortgages over 20 years old and those loans are prepaid. What you have now is 50 million homeowners with $1500 a month extra cash to spend on new cars, new homes, vacations, auto insurance, home insurance, HEALTH insurance, etc. Supply and demand is driven by consumers; it is consumer spending that creates jobs not Corporate America. An investment of 50 billion could wipe out 50 million loans. Ultimately Middle America, like it or not, will be straddled with this enormous debt, so this is not free money, this is OUR money and it is the purchasing power of the American consumer that will stimulate the economy not Corporate America. The economic recovery will fail if consumers, which account for 70% of economic activity, lack the income to invest. Mr. President this is not voodoo economics, this is just common sense. Mr. President, these are hard economic times calling for immediate and radical solutions. In this plan there are no losers, banks win, people win, America wins. One more thing Mr. President, for even more savings I would gladly work for you for half as much as you pay your current economic advisors. Respectfully Submitted, Dan Arellano Austin, Texas USA
