The 16-year old boy fatally stabbed in Croydon on Sunday 18 April has been formally identified as Wesley Sterling.
Officers were called to the Croydon Sports Arena, Albert Road, Croydon, at approximately 00:18hrs after reports of a disturbance outside the venue that was hosting a birthday party.
On arrival they found a youth in a walkway near the club with serious chest wounds. London Ambulance Service (LAS), Air Ambulance (HEMS) were also in attendance and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Next of kin have been informed. The victim was a guest at the party.
A post-mortem examination held today at Croydon Mortuary gave cause of death as a single stab wound to the chest.
Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command (HSCC) are investigating.
Police are appealing for information about the stabbing and an earlier incident at the same venue.
At approximately 23:00 hrs Saturday 17 April a group of six to eight males tried to gate crash the same venue which was holding a 16th birthday celebration.
Detective Inspector Alison Hepworth investigating from HSCC said: "We know there were many guests at the party and would appeal to them to come forward with information on what happened."
