Create skilled rape squads says police chief

Police chief John Yates has called for better expertise in rape investigations.

The officer said every police force should have its own group of specialists on matters related to rape claims.

This would not only improve standards of care for the victims but would also help recover rape conviction rates.

Rape remains an under-reported crime and the lack of sufficient evidence gathering as well as a lack of skilled investigations may result to a wrong classification of ‘no crime’.

Such a measure would make a large difference in both the reporting and tackling of such an offence and it would bring more sentences.

DNA to identify Spain air tragedy victims
DNA tests will be needed to identify many of the 153 people killed in a Spanish plane crash, officials say. Authorities say many victims were so badly burned that fingerprint and other identification will be impossible. The crash of flight JK5022 at Madrid's Barajas Airport on Wednesday is Spain's worst air disaster in decades.
