Police surrounded a school in New Addington yesterday after a pupil was allegedly knifed in a mass brawl.

Two youths were arrested after cops were scrambled to Addington High school around 11am to reports of a student being attacked with a blade.

It is believed up to 20 youngsters were involved as two Year 11 pupils fought on the school grounds - police confirmed one had his nose broken.

Calls for calm

The school was open as usual today as the deputy head of Addington High called for calm after yesterday's chaotic scenes.

Parents descended on the South London School as news broke that a pupil had been slashed with a knife - some saying they were taking their children out of classes.

A police spokesman said the two boys were arrested on suspicion of affray.
