Cops have recaptured armed prison van raid escapee Wayne Conner. Connor, 20, was due to stand trial Tuesday morning for racially-aggravated assault during a burglary when two masked men pulled a shotgun on the Secro drivers and sped off at Bedfont Lake in Feltham. Officers form the Met's Specialist Crime Directorate backed up with local police snared the traveller at Clumber Park Hotel in Worksop, Nottinghamshire just after midnight. There is no word of the two men who held up the prison van. Driver hospitalised
The incident happened as he was being transferred from the local Youth Offenders Institution to Woolwich Crown Court. No shots were fired in the 7.20am ambush but one of the drivers was hospitalised in the raid - a Secro spokesman said he has since been released. The Met has launched a massive manhunt involving a police helicopter, specialist search teams and dog handlers. The family
Connor joined two of his brothers and two of his cousins as the fifth member of his family to try to escape, The Sun reported. Brother Jason McInerney was about to stand trial on the same charges as Connor - he escaped last year after vaulting the dock at Reading Crown Court and savagely sank his teeth into a Detectives nose, but was recaptured days later. Connor's other brother, Kirk McInerney, and cousin Martin Carty, both 18, also tried to escape during the same incident in Reading last March, but were stopped by police. His 15-year-old cousin is on the run after he pushed past a guard and jumped into a getaway car as he was being escorted into Harrow Youth Court in Middlesex without handcuffs in November.
