Police are trying to identify a 'suicidal' man who was thought to thrown himself in front of a tube train in the West End. He was struck by a Victoria line train at Oxford Street just before 9.30pm on 18 May and despite horrific injuries is now in a stable but critical condition under heavy sedation. Police are treating the incident as non-suspicious. No I. D. - "very unusual"
British Transport Inspector Chris Horton said despite extensive efforts to establish the man’s identity, officers have so far been unable to find out who he is. "It's very unusual that we would release an e-fit image of someone in these circumstances but it's very important that his family and those close to him are informed. Our specialist forensic artist created an e-fit of him and we are releasing it in the hope that someone may recognise him, even if they don't know him well, and come forward to us with information that may help us identify him." The man has not regained consciousness since the incident and he was not carrying any identification. Finsbury Park connection
Based on a receipt and other items he was carrying officers believe he may be from the Finsbury Park area but he may have family or other links anywhere across London or the rest of the country. Insp Horton added: "This man is someone's son and may also be a brother or a father. If you know someone matching the e-fit or description we are keen to hear from you so as we can identify him and inform his family as soon as possible." The man is described as black with short, black hair which is greying slightly and has brown eyes. He is around 5’8” tall and is of medium build. He is thought to be between 40 to around 50 years of age. He was wearing a red/burgundy jacket, a striped t-shirt, denim jeans and black shoes. Anyone with any information that can assist the investigation into the incident is asked to call British Transport Police free on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background incident B5 of 01/06/09.
