A vicious thug who beat a Great Ormond Street staff member to death in an ally, then celebrated as if he scored a goal, has been caged for eight years today. Father-of-two Jagtar Johal, 37, bottled or glassed Richard Price to the ground before kicking and stamping on him, the Old Bailey heard. Jurors were told Johal, who had a history of violence and convictions, shouted "come on!" and celebrated after the attack next to the Empire cinema Bromley on Halloween night last year. Johal, of Bromley, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter earlier this year. He two co accused friends were also cleared of all charges. Crown prosecutors said witness described the men as a "pack of wild animals". Judge Peter Thornton said Mr Price may have struck the first blow after he was targeted for refusing to buy a man a drink at the Swan and Mitre pub on Bromley High Street, but that it was an "uneven contest". The gang had been thrown out of the bar earlier and lay in wait for Price. Mr Price, 23, who worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital, had his life support machine switched off and died three days after the attack. The man he refused to buy a drink for, Mr Karabeyaz, 25, was also acquitted of murder but faces a retrial after jurors were unable to decide on the charge of manslaughter.
