Clapham squatters now take over Army flats
Article Video Photos

Squatters forced out of a housing estate in Clapham have taken over an army building.

Yesterday we reported how up to 300 people living illegally on Limerick close estate on Atkins Road who were making residents lives a misery - shortly after, Lambeth council secured an eviction notice and cops moved in.

Moved to Putney

Police officers, security guards, and court officials raided the site armed with battering rams. Bailiffs moved on around 100 people, many of who now occupy the derelict Ministry of Defence flats in William Gardens, Putney.

The MOD was about to refurbish the site for the families of servicemen and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan - a family had moved out only two weeks ago for work to begin.

Residents on the 'millionaires’ row' spoke of months of late night parties, rubbish strewn everywhere, bombfires and loud music. Defence Estates, who manage the property, say work will now be delayed.
