CHILDLINE ROCKS 2009 was officially launched at the Hard Rock Café today to prepare for the world class concert at indig02 on June 1st.

Building on the phenomenal success of last year’s inaugural event, a fantastic line-up of rock giants including Jon Lord, Glenn Hughes, Hot Leg, The Pretty Things, Sons of Albion and Andy Newmark will share the limelight to raise money for the charity, Childline.

Following Radio DJ Bob Harris’ introduction which celebrated last year’s unforgettable concert and promised more of the same, Childline President and Founder Esther Rantzen spoke about the charity and why it is so important:

“Childline is a vital lifeline because I know that there are children in real immediate danger and if they can’t get through to our help, the situation becomes more desperate and we are losing lives.”

Childline is the 24 hour confidential helpline provided by the NSPCC for children who are in danger or distress or worried about a problem. Childline Rocks 2009 will make a significant contribution to the Child’s Voice Appeal to raise £50million and guarantee that all calls get through to a counsellor and children receive the help they need.

Daryl Clarke, VP Childline 2, described music as ‘the seal of gold’ for charities as it touches everyone’s lives and praised the inspiration and support they have received so far.

The show is determined to build on the success of last year’s inaugural event which included Roger Daltrey, Lulu, The Zombies and raised an incredible £100,000.

Bob Harris, who will be comparing the event said: “It was a magical evening for the bands and fans alike. We couldn’t have asked for better support from the industry and the intimacy of the venue meant the audience were treated to some of the biggest names in rock playing to them at almost touching distance.”

Childline Rocks 2009 promises to be even bigger.
