Who would be a Chelsea fan? On the face of it fans of the Stamford Bridge club have an exciting end to the season in prospect. With Avram Grant’s side going into next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Liverpool in pole position and with a make-or-break match in the Premier League this weekend, it is thrilling end to the season. However, while the fans want their team to win every match and the prospect of a Champions League final appearance in Moscow looms large, there is a dilemma that is eating away at some Chelsea fans. Should Chelsea overcome Liverpool next week then Grant would have done what even Jose Mourinho could not do. On the back of this achievement, how can owner Roman Abramovich get rid of a man who is being derided by sections of his own fans and is said to be ignored and undermined by his own players? It would be very difficult for him to be sacked. Imagine if he won the Champions League! This is the dilemma that confronts Chelsea fans. Do they want to see their team become the first London side to be crowned Champions of Europe or do they want to see the back of a manager who promised so much but on the pitch sends out his team to play dull one-dimensional but effective football? Grant is accused of being tactically naïve but if the man who is being ridiculed leads him team to glory on Moscow, will Chelsea fans still chant “you don’t know what you’re doing?” And let’s not forget, Chelsea are still in the hunt for the Premier League title. The choice for Chelsea fans seems simple: Grant and trophies or another manager having suffered Champions League and Premier league heartache?
