Cops think a woman beaten to death in a cafe in Bermsondy was attacked by a chef she fired.

The 55-year-old victim, named locally as Gloria, had run the Good Food store for 17 years - her battered body was found on Monday night.

Eastern European man held

Police quickly arrested a 22-year-old eastern European man Tuesday morning. It appears she may have fired the man just six weeks ago and he was seen running from the cafe hours before a delivery man made the gruesome discovery.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of her delitescent on the corner of Bermondsey Street and Morocco Street 10.40pm Monday night.

Beaten around the head

A post-mortem gave cause of death as blunt trauma to the head and upper body.

A police spokesman admitted that the victim and the suspect are believed to have known each other.
