The number of lawsuits filed against law firms has risen by 163 per cent in one year according to figures from the High Court published by leading law firm Reynolds Porter chamberlain.

The massive rise in litigation against law firms is a symptom of the recession and the rise of mortgage and property fraud involving law firms has seen investors trying to recoup losses.

With the growth of the "no win no fee" arrangements many litigants according to the research are filing more claims against law firms.

210 claims were made against lawyers in the High Court in 2009, a rise of 80 in 2008 and 31 in 2007.
