NEWS DESK A poll conducted by the online newspaper London Daily News has revealed an overwhelming support for a "zero-tolerance" approach to fighting crime in the capital. Asked "would you support a 'zero tolerance' approach to crime in London" 85% per cent said they would support this approach. One of the respondents Andrew Burgess from Wandsworth said, "while not advocating a police state - we already have the laws to implement a 'zero tolerance' approach to crime courts who have passed down pathetic sentences and offer no deterrent and demoralise the police. What's the point of risking your life everyday in catching criminals if they're on back on the streets hours later?" Increasing impatience amongst Londoner's with the way in which the police and government are approaching crime fighting and prevention in the capital. The rising levels of knife crime in London is another illustration of the inability of crime enforecement to act to stop this problem. In New York the "zero-tolerance" approach spear-headed by Rudi Guiliani saw crime in areas of New York disappear with the NYPD taking a very tough approach to crimes looked on previously as innocuous.
