The boozy streets of Camden Town are to get their own team of medics to help curb the weekend madness.

A dedicated team of medics will be camped near Camden Town tube station on Friday and Saturday nights to treat passed out revelers in the bar and club laden hotspot.

Ease pressure on hospitals

The aim is to ease pressure on Accident and Emergency units across the borough - treating tanked up partygoers on site and preventing an ambulance call out. 800,000 people are admitted to hospital with alcohol related illness a year.

These radical plans come as a radical official report reveals that alcohol abuse costs the NHS £2.7bn a year, results in crime costs of £15bn and causes £7.3bn in lost production.

Some local businesses are unhappy that the area has been targeted for such a scheme. Trade groups, Camden Town Unlimited maintain the area is not as bad as people think.

Medical staff will be stationed from next month.
