A letter from End Child Poverty

Dear Sir,

2008 is a vital year for children in poverty. Your report has highlighted once again the vast and unacceptable numbers of children living in poverty in London. We welcome Boris Johnson’s commitment to “improve the quality of life in this city for all Londoners” with over half the children in Inner London currently living in poverty it is crucial that tackling child poverty is a priority for the new Mayor.

We are also putting renewed and improved resources into helping reduce child poverty in London. Within a month we will be launching the “End Child Poverty London project” which will aim to tackle the specific challenges London faces in ending child poverty, through strengthening activities tackling child poverty in London and increasing awareness and campaigning on the issue.

The Government has made a promise to halve child poverty by 2010 and eradicate it by 2020. With your support, we can ensure that they keep this promise of a generation. So we hope your readers will join us on October 4th in London where we are holding the UK’s biggest ever action on Child Poverty, together we can ensure a better future for London’s children.
