A pervert who sexually assaulted a teenage girl on an escalator at Brixton Tube station was jailed for two-and-a-half-years and put on the sex offenders register for life. Glenard Beaumont, 58, plead guilty to sexual assault at an earlier hearing after he was caught red-handed by British Transport Police Officers. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order not to be in enclosed premises with someone under the age of 18 unsupervised and not to undertake any work paid or unpaid with any persons under 18. The local 18-year-old woman was exiting Brixton station on the escalator when Beaumont touched her indecently. The victim alerted two BTP officers on patrol at the station who immediately arrested him. "Our officers were patrolling at the station and saw the woman in a distressed state. They arrested Beaumont immediately,” said Detective Constable Darren Davies of BTP’s Indecency Unit. Sexual offences are very rare on the Tube network. There were 329 sexual offences on the Tube and DLR last year which is less than one for every 3.5 million passenger journeys each day. Howard Collins, Chief Operating Officer of London Underground, said: "Beaumont is now behind bars where he belongs, and this sentence should reassure passengers that London Underground and the courts take these despicable crimes very seriously."
