Annoying, unnecessary and intrusive or vital, safe and sensible - Brits are seemingly split on the high level of airport security.

A poll of 1,300 travellers by TripAdvisor, found that 49% are happy with current airport security measures and 51% feeling they’ve gone too far.

The holiday review site ran the survay over the weekend, just after ink cartridge bombs were found on cargo planes at East Midlands airport and Dubai - one of which was apparently just 17 minutes from detonating.

Emma O’Boyle, spokesperson for TripAdvisor, said:

"Airport security is always a sensitive topic, and even more so following the recent discovery of the explosive devices at East Midlands airport a few days ago.

While many British travellers agree with BA’s comments about unnecessary checks, an almost equal number, quite likely in light of this recent scare, maintain that airports are right to be extra cautious."
