Mayor Boris Johnson, has't a clue about the level of public sports facilities in London, says his key adviser Kate Hoey. Speaking to the Metro, the Labour MP for Vauxhall said nobody has carried out a survey of current local provision, yet a £60,000 Ken Livingstone commissioned study that just delivered their report has been dumped. She called that report, 'elitist.' Olympic confusion
The apparent lack of information leaves officials at a loss to plan any changes needed before the 2012 Olympics. The Ulster woman continued: "Some boroughs cannot even tell you what facilities they have...We haven't even got a proper absolute plan of what's already there. That's how bad things are." New study
With the Livingstone audit kicked into touch, a new city-wide dossier of public swimming pools and playing fields will now be compiled. 'Less legacy more sport' Yesterday it was revealed how the two Olympic boroughs, Tower Hamlets and Hackney, had the highest levels of childhood obesity in the country. Ms Hoey warned that the games could fail to make any improvement to young people's sporting chances. When Johnston announced Hoey's controversial appointment he broke heavily with his predecessor's rhetoric over the 2012 event - Ken said during the mayoral race that he "didn't care about three weeks of sport." Boris argued that the games were about getting children in sport - not an East London legacy. On that Hoey said: 'So much time and money has been spent on making sure there is a transport, housing and social legacy that sport has been almost entirely forgotten about. There will be great swimming facilities in east London but that's not exactly helpful if you live in east Croydon."
