Mayor Johnson is believed to be ready "within weeks" to launch his re-election campaign for a second term as Mayor of London in the 2012 elections. A recent London Daily News poll has given Mayor Johnson 46.7% of the vote second to previous mayor Ken Livingstone on 25%, Alan Johnson the former Labour Home Secretary on 15% and Oona King the former Labour MP on 12.8%.
Mayor Johnson is today supporting the capitals Panathlon Challenge and said:
'The Panathlon Challenge is a fantastic competition. It is about taking part, aspiration and achievement, three of the best motivators for young people. As 2012 approaches, I hope tournaments like this will inspire more Londoners, young and old alike, to take up sport and physical activity.'
City Hall has also recently launched a new initiative to drive down the levels of black youth crime, with the re-introduction of popular black community leader Ray Lewis, who was deputy mayor at the start of Mayor Johnson's time at City Hall.
