NEWS DESK Boris Johnson has decided to leave behind a city plan of making 50 per cent of all new homes affordable and will put restrictions on the height of new buildings. Instead of following his predecessor’s, Ken Livingstone, footsteps, the mayor has decided to drop a London-wide homes policy and narrow it down to agreements of individual affordable housing targets with London boroughs. Also the mayor has decided to be tougher on the permission to build tall buildings as an effort to save the city’s historic landmarks from being outshined by giant constructions. He said “I want a London plan that helps give Londoners a better quality of life, that takes proper account of local needs and which developers and local boroughs can easily use” reported the Financial Times. Regardless, Johnson said he remains committed to the pledge to build 50,000 affordable homes within the next three years. Source: Financial Times
