Boris honeymoon over
Article Video Photos
In a photo on a boat in Turkey bare foot, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson is said by City Hall Editor of the Evening Standard Pippa Crerar to be reviewing the future of foreign embassies for London around the world whilst on holiday in the Aegean.

Pippa Crerar made a veiled criticism that the Mayor is being briefed twice daily on events in the city.  However is it wise for Boris to be off on holiday with the recent spate of murders in the city?  Given the prominence given to combatting knife and weapon related crime in the capital why is Boris not spear-heading these new initiatives?

The campaign to eradicate all links to Ken Livingstone at City Hall is fundamentally wrong.  The presence of London embassies in strategic capitals like Delhi, Shaghai etc is to be supported, given the pressure on the capital to retain investment from these emerging nations.  The UK embassies are already over stretched and under funded in these key markets, and London does need a specific platform to lobby, the London embassies in key markets should stay.

Boris should be taking the campaign to make the streets of the capital safer as a personal crusade and this should not be the job of Deputies.
