Blood on the streets of Ilford, fatal crash claims 1 and five in hospital

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a fatal collision outside Newbury Park Underground Station on the A12 Eastern Avenue, Ilford.


Officers were called at 15:55hrs on Saturday, 1 January, to a collision involving four vehicles, including a green Citroen Picasso and a blue Ford Focus.

London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service also attended.

A 69-year old man, who had been a passenger in the Citroen, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police know his identity but await formal identification and confirmation that next of kin have been informed.

A total of five other people remain in hospital.

The female driver of the Citroen and a second male passenger, both aged approximately in their 60s, were taken to an east London hospital. Their condition is stable.

Three passengers in the Focus - two women and a man, all aged in their 20s - were also taken to an east London hospital. Their condition is stable.

Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath Traffic Garage are investigating. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist the investigation should call 020 8345 4874.
