Blackerry have launched the new Playbook tablet in bid to rival the iPad and over take sales of Apple and Google after reports claim the company is in decline.
The competitive Blackberry vs. Iphone debate seems to be one challenged by phone users in modern gadget wars. Now Blackberry have deigned their own tablet computer to compete with the success of Apples Ipad.
Analysts claimed in a report to The Times: "that the company is on the verge of decline after being outflanked in the smartphone market by Apple's iPhone and devices based on Google's Android operating system."
Mike Lazaridis, RIM chief executive officer, said: "This is one of the most exciting times in our history."
"RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world's most robust and flexible operating systems."
Once released to audiences, the Playbook will not only be in competition with the Ipad but around 80 other touch screen tablet computers, including, Samsung's Galaxy tablet.
In what is now being described as "a highly competitive market" Mr Lazaridis dismissed claims that RIM falls to the challenge, he said: "that the company has presence in 170 countries with 500 carriers, and is growing consistently, but that people don't appreciate it." The Playbook will have a 7-inch (18cm) screen with front and rear facing cameras for video conferencing, an important feature that will appeal to the business market - which is where the original Blackberry phone was aimed at. It is also lot lighter in weight than the Ipad. The Blackberry Playbook is due for release next month in the United States and in UK this summer, which will cost £320.
