"A bitter personal dispute" is thought to be behind the murder of a football fan outside a pub on the Caledonian Road Wednesday night. Sam Fitzgerald, 20, had been mourning the death of his 16-year-old 'soul mate' Jessie Wright after she was strangled a month and a half ago. 19-year-old, Zakk Sackett has been charged with the schoolgirls murder after she was found dead in a yard by a block off flats in Outram Place off York Way on 4th March . Six weeks later less than a mile away, Sam was watching the North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the Thornhill Arms when he was asked to go meet someone outside. A man then plunged the sharpened shaft of a golf club through his torso. His brother came out to see Sam slumped and he died moments later in hospital. Police said they retain an "open mind as to any motive" but this week local councillor Paul Convery said: "At first I feared this murder was gang-related. It is now increasingly likely that a bitter personal dispute underlies this tragedy” Had backed away from relationship
Sam Fitzgerald who lived on the Priory Green estate, is thought to have backed away from the relationship, wary of the age gap. A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday and remains in custody." DCI Sandlin said: "Mr Fitzgerald had been drinking inside the Thornhill Arms pub shortly before he was attacked. He had stepped outside the venue, when he became involved in an altercation with at least one man, resulting in him being fatally wounded. The police are appealling for witnesses. Anyone with information that may assist police should call the incident room on 020 8345 3865 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
