Bishop Porfyrios the Church of Cyprus representative to the European Union along with a group of MEP’s has been illegally detained by Turkish occupying troops in the occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus, who have accused the bishop and the MEPs of "spying". A group of MEPs who were visiting the occupied territories of northern Cyprus on the invitation of Eleni Theocharous MEP in the European Peoples Party from Poland, Bulgaria are now in prison held by Turkish troops.
The detained MEPS names are Jarosław Wałęsa MEP Poland, Artur ZASADA Poland, NEDELCHEVA, Mariya MEP Bulgaria and their assistants.
The spurious claims by the Turkish occupying forces have been denied by Bishop Porfyrios office in Brussels who have condemned the actions of the Turkish army and said "it is appalling and disgraceful that a holy man is detained and imprisoned over totally untrue and spurious allegations".
The London Daily News editor-in-chief John Kaponi has called for the Turkish government to release at once Bishop Porfyrios who made the news around the world for the successful repatriation of the 300 year old icon of Christ held by the pop star Boy George.
The Republic of Cyprus is speaking with the United Nations to release the Bishop and the MEPs.
