News Desk The stakes are high in one of London’s largest boroughs with the incumbent Conservative group promising to freeze council tax rises for another two years.
Speaking at the launch of the groups manifesto, Cllr Lynne Hillan the Conservative group leader in Barnet said:
“When we took control of Barnet Council from Labour and the Liberals it was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and whole departments were performing so badly they were about to be taken over by central government. We reversed that decline and improved services to the excellent standard they are at today.
“Conservatives have delivered better services that cost you less. We have delivered a council tax freeze after years of keeping rises below inflation, and working with a Conservative government, would freeze tax for another two years.
Barnet council has recently approved the expansion and redevelopment of Brent Cross, but has been under fire over the scheme, with the government calling for a public enquiry into the decision which was approved by City Hall this month. The Conservative Group currently have 39 councillors out of 61.
