Banks to become "fortresses" ahead of G20 protests

The City of London and the London Chamber of Commerce have warned businesses to take security precautions including it is said in the FT "making sure all staff wear ID, keeping movement in and out of the offices to a minimum, considering wearing more casual clothes and canceling unnecessary meetings".

The CEO of the London Chamber of Commerce is quoted in the FT as sying:

There will be concern by business the two days of the protest but the vast majority of firms have robust security arrangements in place".

The attack on Sir Fred Goodwin's home aka "Fred the Shred" the former CEO of the Royal Bank of Scotland has prompted security consultants to "advise" banks in central London to step up security ahead of planned protests during the G20 summit.

Kroll the security consultants are quoted in the FT as saying that bankers are "easy targets" for protestors leading to senior management taking extra security precautions at work places and their homes.

Nick Doyle of Kroll said to the FT:

The bankers are one of the public faces of the financial crisis and those faces include junior branch managers who might have had to carry out restructuring and to give people bad news.  Its not just the senior executives that should be taking care".
