Detectives are investigating the murder of 20-year-old man in Wye Street, Battersea have made an arrest. The man, aged in his late teens, was arrested last night at an address in south London on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at a south London police station.
Police were called at approx. 01:30hrs on Wednesday, 22 June to Wye Street, SW11 close to Pennethorne House following reports of a man, aged 20, suffering stab wounds.
London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 02:05hrs.
Detectives believe they know the man's identity and next of kin have been informed. We await formal identification.
A post-mortem examination date has been set for today, 23 June, at St George's Mortuary, Tooting.
The Homicide and Serious Crime Command is investigating. An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Dave Manning.
DCI Dave Manning said:
"We would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything between the hours of 11pm and 2am in and around Pennethorne House. We believe at this early stage that there may have been a group of youths hanging around the estate prior to this murder and residents may have seen them. We have had a good response from the local community so far but would urge anyone with information to contact us."
