An attempted bank robbery took place at the Natwest Bank in Southgate this afternoon and there was another gun incident at a nearby school. Edmonton police have confirmed the heist, forensic officers closed the bank and have been conducting investigations into the incident . There was also reports of a firearm's incident several miles away at Waverley School in Oakwood. The community school has over 100 pupils aged 3-19. Police are not linking the incidents as of yet. The bank on the Bourne Side of Southgate Circus had been sectioned off and the High Street was closed to traffic and pedestrians. 'Armed robbers' in police shooting last night Just last night a man who was part of a gang of suspected armed robbers was shot by police on nearby Green Lanes. The man, thought to be in his 20s was blasted in the shoulder after a pre planned operation stopped two cars on the Palmers Green end of the road just after midnight. Five of the group were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob. In 2003 a man was shot after a botched robbery at Southgate's HSBC bank just opposite the Natwest. The areas around Southgate, Enfield and Palmers Green has attracted the focus of the Met Police in various operations to eliminate criminal gangs involved in money laundering, drugs and cases of human trafficking.
