Crime Desk Londoners are today learning that a child was seriously injured when a pit bull dog mauled a six year old girl in east London.
The Metropolitan Police are appealing to the public to help them trace a dog that mauled a six-year-old girl in E4, leaving her with serious injuries.
The girl had part of one ear bitten off during the attack and also sustained wounds to her neck and shoulder. She was taken to a hospital in Essex for surgery, where she remains this evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 1200hrs today, 21 January, in Pole Hill, Woodberry Way, in front of the girl's parents.
Officers and London Ambulance were on the scene soon afterwards, however the dog and the man it was with were no longer present. All possible steps are now being taken to trace them.
The man is described as a white male, aged approximately 38 to 40 years old, with cropped blonde hair.
The dog is thought to be a black and white bull terrier-type dog.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Cheek, of Waltham Forest police, said: "This was an appalling incident that left a young child with serious injuries which are likely to scar her for life.
"I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, was in the area at the time of the attack, or has noticed anything since that might assist the investigation, to get in touch as soon as possible.
"It is crucial that we find those responsible so that no-one else is put at risk by this dog and its owner."
