by John the Cabby Funny how we all seem to forget the past and all of a sudden these wonderful libertarians are so concerned at the possibility of a period of detention without trial for suspected terrorists of up to 42 days. On the odd occasion that these powers may be required by the police or security services proper judicial oversight will take place where a judge will decide if a further period of detention is required or necessary and most importantly justified.
People have forgotten we introduced Diplock courts, internment without trial in Northern Ireland but you can't upset the liberal left in London, but you can bang up a Irishman in Londonderry ! Yet the lawyers, the left wingers shout what of the Magna Carta, what of habeus corpus, but what of the victims of the last attacks in London what good did Magna Carta do them ? We have a serious problem in this world and we need to give the security services the right tools to get on with the job, we expect the police to stop the attacks on the innocent yet the very people who allege to stand up for you and me deride the Prime Minister and anybody who stands by his position.
If you are in any doubt about the threat facing this nation just take a short walk down Parliament street and Whitehall, you will notice the large amount of roadworks and the installation of ornate anti-lorry bomb barriers. I am cynical about a lot of things in this modern world but the nation state must prevail and the terrorist will always lose because we believe in the rule of law and order. The threat is real, the danger is ever present but we will prevail because we are prepared to act now, so we may be able to avert the possible future loss of life.
I like many ordinary people throughout this country support the Prime Minister on this issue, he needs to stand up to the left whingers and the opportunist Conservatives and ensure a yes vote for 42 days on Wednesday, Cameron and the Conservatives are wrong on this issue and he may well rue the day the party didn't stand up to the threat of international terrorism.
You can release a suspect after 42 days but you can't bring a loved one back from the dead, enough said i think.
