A 16 year old was convicted for the murder of a north London mother in a contract killing netting the teenager killer £200.

Santre Sanchez Gayle (pictured), of Compton Road, NW10, was convicted at the Old Bailey of the murder of Gulistan Subasi in Kingsmead Way E9 on 22 March last year.

The Old Bailey heard the youth - aged 15 at the time - was hired to carry out the contract killing.

Another male - Isaak Billy, 25 (9.4.86), of Oxford Gardens W10 - was also convicted of murder, for his part in planning and carrying out the doorstep shooting:

Billy was also convicted of making threats to kill on 7 April 2024 to a male youth who would later become a prosecution witness.

He will also be sentenced tomorrow.

Police were called at about 20:30hrs on Monday 22 March 2024 to reports of a person shot at an address in Kingsmead Way E9.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found Gulistan Subasi, aged 26, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The case was investigated by the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

DCI Jackie Sebire said: "This has been a particularly harrowing and difficult investigation. Firstly in terms of the way that Gulistan Subasi was so callously killed as she simply answered the front door. She had only been in the country for two days, visiting her family prior to her wedding.

"The CCTV footage is truly frightening and shows the youth exhibiting no doubt or hesitation as he approached the flat, rang the bell and then shot Gulistan as she opened the door. Since his arrest he has shown no sign of remorse or comprehension for the devastation he has brought to the Subasi family.

"I would like to thank Gulistan's family for their support of the investigation and the dignity they have exhibited throughout the trial. I would also like to pay tribute to the witnesses from the community who bravely gave evidence. This has been a year of painstaking and complex enquiries, leading to today's convictions."

Gulistan lived in Turkey and had travelled to the UK to stay with her mother at her maisonette in Kingsmead Way two days before her murder.

She planned to visit her son for his birthday a few days later ahead of her wedding in Turkey.

During the evening of 22 March the victim was at home having a meal with her mother and a family friend.

At 20:23hrs there was a knock at the door which Gulistan went down to answer. There was a loud bang and she cried out 'Mama'.

Her mother went to the head of the stairs where she saw her daughter lying inside the doorway bleeding from a chest wound.

She had been shot at close range with a shotgun.

CCTV showed a lone male entering the alleyway leading to the maisonettes, having arrived in a mini-cab. He was seen to knock before taking a shortened shotgun from his rucksack and pointing it at the door, resting it on the metal security grill gate in front of the premises.

A light was seen coming on in the doorway as Gulistan came to the entrance. There was a single shot before the gunman then ran towards the road, stashing the weapon back inside the rucksack. He got into a waiting taxi which made off down Homerton Road. His calm state meant the taxi driver had no idea what he had just done.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called but Gulistan was pronounced dead at 21:01hrs.

Detectives quickly began working on the premise that Gulistan was the victim of a contract killing.

Their enquiries revealed that Isaak Billy had accepted the contract for the murder and secured the involvement of the 16-year-old youth, then aged 15, to carry out the shooting.

Billy is believed to have been paid "thousands" for his role and the teenager just £200.

On 10 April 2024 Gayle was arrested after detailing his involvement in the murder to a friend.

Billy surrendered himself to police on 19 April after learning police were looking to arrest him.

Both were later charged.
