London Olympic organisers have awarded themselves tens of thousands of pounds in bonuses.

Seven bosses trousered an average salary top up of £48,000 excluding salary and pension contributions between £257,00 and £372,000 - all more than the Prime Minister

The Olympics Delivery Association’s annual report shows it's employees are among Britain's most highly paid quango directors. They say the bonuses were in return for the East London project progressing on time and budget.

The coalition government have warned 2012 managers about rising costs and wants the bill cut - they have yet to rubber stamp Chief executive David Higgins package of £438,000 - the highest wage of any quangoboss. Last week Olympics minister Hugh Robertson told the ODA to:

"..take account of the prevailing economic conditions and what the Government has said and make the award accordingly".

His Director of communications Godric Smith, spin doctor to former prime minister Tony Blair, is also Britain's best-paid quango communications chief with a package up £10,000 to £257,000.

Director of construction Howard Shiplee received £377,000 including a bonus of £57,000.

Directors will defer 10 per cent of their bonuses - on average £6,800 - until the job is finished in 2012.
